New Year, Same You? How To Avoid Failed Resolutions
Jan 02, 2025New year, same you?
I can't believe 2025 is officially here.
This could be a year that changes everything for you.
Or...
This could be a year that stays about the same for you.
And hopefully not a year that you end up worse off.
But those are the options.
And because we are never really staying the same, you'll either fall into a year that's better or a year that's worse.
So really you have two options.
And if you're sitting there, optimistic and believing it will be a life changing year, odds are that you're probably wrong.
Not because I don't believe in you.
Only because the data is pretty clear on how many people don't follow through on what they say they're going to do heading into a new year.
Think about that for a second.
The odds are pretty good that you might end up worse than you did last year.
But only for some of you reading this.
Here's what I mean.
I'll never forget my first time reading through the book Necessary Endings by Dr. Henry Cloud.
Yes, I've read it multiple times, and you probably should too.
I was in Tampa, Florida for a coaching event.
Sitting outside for lunch the day before the event and just making my way through this book.
And there were words that were just jumping off the page.
I'm paraphrasing, but it said:
"The greatest predictor of future performance is past performance"
Think about that for a second.
Good intentions are not enough to change.
The turning of a year isn't enough to change.
A 21 day cleanse, a Whole30, or a new workout program isn't enough to change.
Because all those things have happened before.
They've happened for me, and they've probably happened for you too.
And none of those things last.
So here is how you can determine if 2025 will be your best year.
Was 2024 your best year yet?
Before 2024, was 2023 your best year yet?
Are you moving in the right direction?
That's all that matters.
If you're continuing to push forward, even if it's so much slower than you want it to be, you're still moving forward.
And that means that the odds are good you'll keep moving forward again this year.
Now if you found yourself slipping this year.
Gaining some weight, making some poor food choices that don't support your health, missing the gym - then you've got to be brutally honest with yourself.
Was this a small exception, or has this been the trend over the past several months (or several years)?
If so, don't beat yourself, but you better have a plan to get yourself out of the slump.
Like an actual plan, with actual accountability, that lasts more than 3 weeks or 3 months.
If that's you, click here. I want to talk with you.
I promise I won't twist your arm into a coaching program you don't need...unless you and I both decide you really need it.
I'm just here to help get you out of a slump and back on the right track.
If you are moving forward in your health and fitness journey, but you want to move faster, DM me and let me know.
Let me know what your goals are this year and what you're excited about.
If there's any way I can help - whether through a helpful article, podcast, some advice, or one of my coaching programs - I promise I will do what I can to help you move forward faster.
Let's move forward together this year.
It can be fast or it can be slow.
It just can't be moving backwards.
